Can you do what you learned?

A: It could be that you have attended lessons in a class, studied online/from home or just listened to an 'expert' tell how something is done. For each lesson:

Take notes - in a book, mental note or make a recording.

B: After the lesson:

  1.     study the notes and check details from a book or online. Edit/add to your notes appropriately.
  2.     Practice out any procedure given, or work through the examples as done by the expert in class.
  3.     Confirm that you are able to reproduce the results, including those given online or in books.

C: Extend your practicing by working through application for the concepts covered in class, seeking assistance when required.

D: Do this after every lesson, and before the next lesson.

This is the discipline required to learn and to put into practice what you learn.
